Edinburgh Bucket List

  1. Explore the Highlands of Scotland
  2. Climb Arthur’s seat at Holyrood Park
  3. Go to a ceilidh- a traditional Scottish social gathering with live music, dancing and good cheer 
  4. Swim with Nessie in Loch Ness
  5. Take a Ghost tour of Edinburgh
  6. See the artsy city of Glasgow
  7. Go with friends to a football match
  8. Visit Princes Street Gardens, and relax in the centre of the city
  9. Join one of ENU’s many clubs and societies
  10. Take every opportunity to make friends with locals
  11. Go for a traditional ‘afternoon tea’
  12. Visit St Andrews and walk the Old Course or take a kite and have a picnic on the fantastic
  13. Visit Edinburgh Castle, and other historic building around Scotland
  14. Go to a stand-up comedy evening
  15. Attend Edinburgh’s Doors Open Day where you can visit buildings normally closed to the public for free in September 
  16. In January attend (or organize) a Burns Supper
  17. Visit Victoria Street, the inspiration for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter stories
  18. Climb Calton Hill and see the New Town from above
  19. Chill in a local pub to hear a live session- if you’re a musician take your instrument, too!
  20. Take a ferry to Inchcolm Priory
  21. Visit Glasgow for a day or weekend of fun, culture and gigs
  22. Take a train to North Berwick, and visit the Bass Rock
  23. Visit Castle Craigmillar
  24. Walk along the Water of Leith
  25. Visit St Giles Cathedral, which is open every day with choral services on Sunday
  26. Visit GreyFriars Churchyard to find Tom Riddle's gravestone
  27. Take in an afternoon film at the Filmhouse
  28. Tour round City Art Centre, Market Street
  29. Drop by Martone South Bridge for gelato
  30. Visit the Whisky Experience, at Castle Hill and see how whisky is made

  34. Visit Port of Leith and have lunch or evening meal at one of their famous fish restaurants

  44. Take a bus to Forth Bridge and walk over the Firth of Forth (not for the faint-hearted!)

  48. Have a picnic in the Botanic Gardens
  49. Visit Lithgow by train and tour the palace

  53. Take the train to South Queensferry for bar lunch

  57. Take a walk down closes from the high Street to Cowgate and Grass market

  59. Visit the Edinburgh Dungeon
  60. Take a ‘hop on hop off’ city bus tour

  74. Spend a weekend wandering around one of Scotland's many Farmer's Markets
  75. Sip on Irn Bru, a unique Scottish soft drink with a bright orange color
  76. No trip to the UK is complete without tucking in to a plate of fish and chips. Be sure to ask for the 'chippy sauce'!
  77. Harry Potter fans must visit the Elephant House cafe in Edinburgh, where JK Rowling wrote the iconic series.
